Sierra or Racor Water Separator Filter?

Sierra or Racor Water Separator Filter? - 04/01/18 01:10 PM

Does anyone run these filters and what are your results? Have a 2008 Mercury 150 EFI and thinking about converting. Really need some advice on this as I don't want to go off in the wrong direction.

This is the one I used, so far so good. After one season with my new boat, my little stock filter was a mess, full of water and crud. Wouldn't run over 4000. Changed the stock filter and added the Racor. All good again. You will find Racors on almost all big offshore boats. There are size recommendations for whatever horsepower, be sure and check that.

both are good products an any kind of 10 micron filter is better than none.

You already have a spin on fuel filter w/ water alarm on the motor.

With the known ethanol problems you can't have too much protection. A Racor 10 micron water separator is just good insurance. I change the element every 100 hours along with the lower unit lube.
Along with water removal, it keeps trash from getting to the motor.
