Skeeter SS90 porpoising

Skeeter SS90 porpoising - 03/18/18 03:33 PM

When I am by myself it seems to do fine, but when I have a tournament load and a person, I can’t seem to run it at wot unless the boat is trimmed all the way down. When I start trying to trim up to gain speed and rpms, it starts porpoising. Very annoying. Livewells are in the back.

It has a Johnson 90hp, it’s 16.2ft, ballistic 13.5x17 prop, and 6” manual jackplate.

anything I need to try different? Motor is mounted about as high as I can without losing grip on hole shot and on turns.

get the prop checked for tip cupping. or it could also have a slightly bent blade.

You might try redistributing some weight to the bow of the boat. Sounds like a weight issue with the boat being 16' and having an extra 150+ pounds of a second person in the boat. Do a test and put the second person toward the front and see how that changes the boats balance.

Lowering the motor 1” cleared it up. I think the prop was ventilating when trimming out.
