Installing a bilge pump

Anyone have any experience putting a bilge pump in on its side? I know it sounds stupid, but the hose that runs to the water outlet is stiff and doesn't have much play. It needs to be hooked to a bilge that has a vertical hose hookup (or whatever it's called). I can't find a bilge pump that doesn't have the hookup in the side. In other words, the hose needs to hook to the bilge from the top. No brand has an elbow to install either to give it the proper fit either. Suggestions? Changing the entire hose to the outlet would be a bear...it's almost impossible to get to in my 91 Kingfisher.

add a short piece of 'flexible' hose to the end of the stiff one.... ?? ..

I did it. Seemed to work out. Going to let the silicone dry and give it a try.
