Motor need to be raised?

This is running at WOT...if you watch the video.

The fin does mostly get above running water line, but its getting splashed pretty heavy and keep in mind this fin is mounted on top of the cavitation plate.

Does it look like I can raise it up slightly to get more performance?

What RPM's are you running at WOT? Doesn't sound like its running enough RPM"S.

Height looks OK.

About 5200-5300

It's prob the case the GoPro is in...the waterproof case really muffles the sound.

engine height is first dictated by water pressure.

then by boat handling.
then by max rpms.
then gps speed.

when one of any of them falls off you've gone too high.. drop down until it comes back.

water pressure gauge is going on this week. Didnt want to start raising it until I had it on.

I cant quite get to max rpms yet, but really close. 5500 is goal and im hitting 5300.

Boat handles really good.

I will get the water pressure gauge on and start increasing it by 1/4" and find the sweet spot.

Good to hear about the gauge.. your definitely on the right track.

Looks like you have plenty of room to raise the motor but as others have said water pressure is critical. Don't expect a big increase in speed. Keep in mind that as with any boat set up, performance will be different according to how the boat is loaded. If set up with just you in the boat it will perform differently when you have passengers, livewell & gas tank full etc...

update: looking for advice

original prop: Turning Point Aluminum 13.25x19 (reached 45.2mph at 5400rpms)
prop upgrade: Powertech Stainless 4 blade 13.25x17 (reached 43mph at 5200rpms)

water pressure is never an issue. My props start losing grip before I have seen any loss at all of water pressure at WOT. Getting 24-26psi at WOT.

I dont notice any significant control with either...I wasnt out on a windy day. Both props need about the same motor height. I found the spot where I can almost use the full trim length without losing grip. One notch higher, both props would start blowing out when trimming up.

Top end speed is pretty high on my list as its a bass boat and most of the time I will be running from spot to spot, or fishing.

If I do end up with a three blade, I would like for it to be a stainless so it doesnt get torn up as easy.

Would you guys think 18p would be right? Or prob still a 17p in 3 blade and run it up closer to 5500rpms?

Prop it to reach maximum recommended RPM's at WOT.


Raise motor till you reach the minimum recommended water pressure for you motor, then lower it 1/4".

I am having similar issues on a 2200 Bay Champ. I know I need a lower pitch prop and already have it picked out. I thought plate could be raised and I did. Problem was I have had to drop it twice to keep from losing grip at full trim. Reading this post I just realized what was happening. Same exact load but I have a 95 gallon tank and it was more than half full when I bought the boat. Problems developed as a I burnt off fuel. Right now my plate is 1/2" below where I started. With lighter fuel load I can't trim all the way at WOT without blowing out.

Bet a more agressive cupped 3 blade 18 pitch would get close to 5500 at the right hight... mainly you want to use a slip calculator while you work on it so you know what is going on with your hook up

I have a Ballistic 13.5x17 on the way. If I can get the rpms up to max, or over max, I have a guy here local that can cup the blades some to made add a pitch.
