Revo - 11/07/10 06:00 AM

Just bought a Revo SX today. What are your thoughts. I was really torn between the Curado and the Revo. I have a couple of Chronarch's and am very pleased with them but did'nt want to shell out $300. I hope I am happy with the Revo as well.

You made the wrong choice IMO Revos have had a lot of problems with their bearing screaming then going out. I have the Inshore and Toro(2nd one--1st one had bad bearing) had 2 Premiers and took them both back after the drag went out on them. I have 5 Curado D and 1 E series and have never had a problem with them. Take that back--had the drag go bad on a 300 Curado but that was after catching 20+ redfish at the coast smallest ones being 40 inches. Southwest parts repaired it under warranty.

I got the Toro at the Bargain cave at Cabelas for $145(then used a $20 off coupon) and got it for $120

ya know I have 8 Revos, 3 Ive had for 5 years, and none of them scream. Dont know if its because Im always doing preventive work on them but Ive never had them scream nor have I had a customer complain about it. Curados are still solid reels and would highly recommend them to anyone as well.

I wonder if they use diffent quality bearings for their Revo line than they do their round baitcasters. Or it could just be that the round reels are just used more for bait fishing so they aren't casting as often. I've never really heard of issues with the round series having bearing issues. I was lucky enough to stumble on a bunch of the Record Abu reels for $49 clearance at Academy and picked up a few--great reels.

Been using Revos for the past 3 years,,,love em. Good solid reel. The new 2010 SX's are very smooth. Last count was 21 on the boat with no failures and that's going out 2x a week every week. thumb

I have 2 revo's, I've had a level wind issue with 1 and Southwest repaired in a day or so. No screaming, no drag problems. fished salt and fresh with them for 2 years, general wash and maitnence after salt use. Been ABU fan all my life, no need for other reels.
