Small lures on a baitcaster

Small lures on a baitcaster - 08/09/21 01:59 AM

So I’ve been practicing casting small lures on my lews laser TSX combo. Rod is a med heavy 6’ 10” Line weight 10-20lbs lure 3/16-5/8oz fast action. Now I’ve gotten down casting without or minimal backlash. Thing is I’m getting 10-15 yards or so per cast and I’d like to double that to 25-30 yards. I put 20 pound mono on the reel, wondering if changing to a lighter line or braided line will help get longer casts.

Lighter line helps. Try Berkley Trilene XL 6 lb. it also helps to use a lighter action rod so it will load properly with a light lure. If you really want to get into it, go to https://www.finesse-fishing.com

Lighter braid like #15 would help. Or a spinning setup would achieve this. Though I’m sure you have your reasons for wanting to use casting gear
