Daiwa Millionaire vs Abu Blue Yonder?

Daiwa Millionaire vs Abu Blue Yonder? - 06/15/20 03:12 PM

Hi All,

Since I moved to Texas I've been fishing at a big lake which is pretty shallow for about the first fifty to sixty yards out.

I've tried to get better equipment for distance casting, and am currently using a Penn Fathom Lever Drag 15 and a 12' surf rod.

This has been working pretty well but I need to tape my thumb with athletic tape when I cast because the reel has no mag brake and really smokes.

When I hit it right I can get 100+ yards, but usually I end up screwing up the cast anyway because it's hard to keep perfect control with my thumb - especially at night.

I was thinking of switching to a reel that has a mag brake on it, and am down to two choices:

Daiwa Millionaire or the Abu Garcia Blue Yonder 7000

Do any of you have experience with either of these reels?

I've read some negative reviews about the Daiwa, related to bearing issues, but it's the Internet and I don't trust Amazon reviews all that much.

I'd love to hear your experience with either of those reels if you've owned one.

Thanks,

Russ
PS: I'm usually pitching a 4-6oz lead weight + bait.
