Please explain Powell Rod Mag Medium Heavy rating

Please explain Powell Rod Mag Medium Heavy rating - 02/13/19 02:18 PM

I have a Powell Mag Medium Heavy 735 CEF. Really nice rod, it's rated for up to 2oz lure weight.

Looked at the ratings for the same length Powell in Heavy rating and it's rated only up to 1oz lure weight.

I realize I should just look at the power number rating, but in Powell's terminology, is the term "Mag Medium Heavy" more like other brand's XH ?

LOL. I am interested.

My guess, (note I did state guess,) is that it is eather a typeo or it has something to do with the word “Mag.”

I will be interested in the real answer.

The words "Mag Medium Heavy" are written on the rod along with the length and power rating "735"
The max recommended lure weight of 2oz is also stamped on the rod

I think the words "Mag Medium" translates to "Extra"

If you look at the regular Medium Heavy rods in the same length from the Powell website, you get the following specs

Here's the specs for a 7'3" Heavy

Here's the Mag Medium Heavy specs in the same length from the Powell website

So, in my mind:
Power rating 3 = MH
Power rating 4 = H
Power rating 5 = Mag Medium Heavy or XH
