Painting Ambassadeur side plates

Painting Ambassadeur side plates - 02/12/19 05:12 PM

My youngest wants a “Purple” reel like Daddy...

I was lucky enough to obtain the purple reels from catfish connection before they sold out.

So, I have a 5500C I am wanting to paint purple. It currently has plain silver plates.

Any advice on a “do-it-yourself” evolution?

•I am tracking. One of my Scouting friends is an auto body professional. He has recommended steps for cleaning, prepping, and etching. He also explained why the etching was important.

Paint
Clear coat

Self etching primer is probably the most important step, as most paints do not stick very well to Aluminum which I believe is what the sidepates on that particular reel are made of...

I would tell your son that the fish don’t care what color the sideplates are.Color makes no difference as to what the fish think but if you still want to do it I would either get the sideplates anodized or powder coated.
