Livewell not working....

Livewell not working.... - 01/04/03 06:34 PM

Question is, what would make the bilge pump for the livewell quit working? It worked fine and then the next time I went out it spit out a little water then nothing. I checked the fuse and replaced it, but it still doesn't work. I'm new to the boating world and haven't the slightest clue on what might be the problem. Is there something that could've gotten inside and clogged it up? Thanks for any help you guys might be.

My bilge pump wasn't working when I bought my boat. It had a bunch of crud in it that was clogging it up and it eventually broke off the pump spinner. I just replaced it for about $20. My bilge pump is no longer permantently mounted in the bilge so I can take it out and clean it every few months.

On yours I would see if it is getting juice by using a volt meter...if it is, the pump is probably bad..they are pretty cheap to replace.

i also just bought a new boat and the airated baitwell is not working. When turned on I can hear the pump working but the water is not being sucked in with any force. As some suggestions stated in my post under "boats and motors" I am going flush the the system both straight and then reverse to see if it unclogs anything. If that does not work I will have dismantle the pump. Any other suggestions ?

SBG,

I would bet that you have a clog in wither the pump or the hose. I went through the same thing last year with a new boat. Dealer replaced the pump and said I should be ready to go. 1st time on the water it pumped what amounted to about 1/2 cup od water so I took it back. The found a chunk of silicone lodged in the hose right where the water comes out into the livewell. I would disconnect the hose at different spots to see exactly where the clog is, then clear it of all foreign objects.
