If you end up buying the navionics platinum card, it comes with a reader...

You can use as small as a 2 gb SD card and buy a cheap $10 reader, nothing special.

Or from what I hear you can take your card to Bass Pro (if you have a close one) and they'll update the card for you.

If you can't do it I will be willing to stick it on a card and mail it to you.

You may not need to buy an external card reader.

These days many computers, tablets, etc. have SD reader slots already built-in. Check around where the computer's network and USB ports, and other places where cables are plugged-in. An SD reader port looks similiar to a USB port but is a little larger.

Old Champ is right on. I'd just add that most older computers have the original SD card size readers BUT, for a few bucks you can purchase a package of SD card converters (for lack of the correct name). They will take the old standard SD card and convert it to any size...ie, micro, mini etc. That way it doesn't matter which size card you have you'll always be able to use your card reader/writer with any of them. Walmart had them and might still or I'm certain RAdio Shack would have them.
PS: a good buddy of mine went and bought an external card reader to update his HB but, asked me to come help. When I got to his house I saw that he already had an SD card reader in his old bench type computer. Most any computer still operating today has one built in.
