Water depth and transducers

I am just curious; do any of you offset the depth your trolling motor depth finder transducer is reading? In other words, do you want to know what the water depth is under the TM transducer or do you want to know the overall depth of the water your boat is in? I can see good reasons for both.

If you do not offset the reading, it will tell you how deep it is under your transducer, therefore reducing the risk of damaging your trolling motor.

Offsetting the reading (depth under transducer plus distance between transducer to water line)is good to determine things like what diving depth for a lure, etc.

Just curious.

I personally do not because I'm raising and lowering it for different conditions. Shallow water higher and windy wavey waters deeper.
