All depends on what you do with your unit(s). The Touch/Gen2 units are good, especially if you want to network multiple units to share sonar, waypoints, DS/SS. The Elite 7 is a good unit if you do not expect to need or have much call to share data. The Elite 7 can share waypoints via NMEA network, but only share when both units are on and connected via network. The HDS units will sync waypoints when connected or next time they get connected via Ethernet. Also Elite 7 cannot share sonar or DSI images.

With that said I have a HDS8 at console and replaced a HDS5X (no GPS)up front with a Elite 7. The Elite 7 GPS is mainly for backup in case my HDS8 goes down. I don't create lots of waypoints, so when I do I can share manually via SD card. I keep the Elite split between sonar and downscan. I like my combination of units, works for me.

I just installed a touch unit and love it! It's really easy to navigate the menus. Already saving up for another for the bow!
