One big unit or two smaller ones?

One big unit or two smaller ones? - 08/28/19 12:13 AM

About to upgrade some equipment. Need some opinions. Is one big screen better than two smaller ones at the console? I noticed guys going to that ever since the 15” & 16” units came out.

Two big screens is better, you can settle for less.

Bigger more pixels and more definition

It may a not be an apples to apples comparison, but the fishfinder companies are smart; when they release a unit with a bigger screen, they usually include more pixels and better definition also.

That being said, I'd go with the two smaller option (you're not putting all your eggs in one basket)

There is something to be said about having TWO 9-inch screens over ONE 12-inch or better yet having 1-12" & 1-9" over just one-16".
My opinion...

Screen size is most important when using side imaging. If you go with 2 smaller units but the largest screens you can budget, you can network them together. I am sure this is the same for all brands but I know with humminbirds you can network them together and split the si transducer between the two unit's. Meaning that you can set one unit to show full screen left side and the other unit full screen right side from one transducer

I originally wanted two 12” at console. But it’d be cheaper to do one 15”.

With the SOLIX 15" you can have full screen width for SI for 1/2 the display and then choose what other technologies to display on the other 1/2.

One big TOUCH screen. You change between customizable screens almost instantly.

Well, the big question is solix or live! I’m thinking id like the one big screen at the console. The lives have programmable preset buttons to change screens. How can you change screens instantly with the solix?

Solix has a side bar that allows you to save 10 preset screens

Great video! I also saw that you can two finger touch any part of a split screen view and it will instantly go full screen for that view. That’s a cool feature on Hbird. Will that work on live units?
