Step for Center Console - 06/10/19 05:07 PM

Being an old cooter it has become more difficult to make the step up to the front deck of my center console which is higher than the rear deck. I guess I need to make a step unless someone knows of one on the market. Getting old is a PITA.

I have a friend that made me one out of Aluminum he used diamond plate aluminum for the step and 1" Aluminum square tubing for the legs with feet. We secured it with Velcro bottom of feet to floor. Has worked out perfectly no issues. Mine had to be removable because I have an access hatch for under the front deck that I needed to get to occasionally. I don't know how to post pictures on here or I would post one

Are you asking about stepping up from inside the boat from in front of the console up to the front casting deck?

If so, if there is ample room between the 2, GOOGLE search for portable steps for horse trailers. Several out there that may work. There are many things to use as a small step. The trick will be to make sure it doesn't slide around on the deck. Maybe bond some rubber to both the floor and the bottom of the step.

I made one for my I class 20 out of 3/4" angle light gauge aluminium and used 3/4" plywood for the step with carpet to match my boat carpet. You can't tell that it is not factory made. I cut and fit everything and pop riveted it together first and then took it to an aluminium welder to weld it together. I fastened it to the floor of my boat with 1" stainless steel screws and then screwed the carpeted plywood to the frame. You can't see the screws and it is fairly easy to remove if needed. Total cost was around $ 35.00 mostly for the welder.
