My pontoon has a small leak somewhere. How much air pressure should I use to look for a leak? I don't want to hurt them ?

I have heli-arc welded a few aluminum fuel tanks off of Peterbilt trucks that were leaking or punctured and when I test them I start at 10psi and then bump it up to about 20psi. As long as the end caps are dome shaped you should be fine. If they are flat l would stay in the 5-10psi range.

my pontoon is flat on the back and basically shaped like an U not circular.

You’ll have to be careful to much pressure will try to balloon out on the flat top.

That is what i am nervous about. I put air in them once, not even one pound and it was making weird sounds. one pound wasn't enough to get air to escape.

do NOT put air in them if they in the sun and hot. or if they will get hot. air expands or something does and will increase pressure.
I pu 4 punds in mine to test was ok.
