Depthfinder question - 04/03/18 03:39 PM

I am not up to date on the depth finders. For the trolling motor depth finder what is the most important features/options for bass fishing, is side imaging even work on a trolling motor, is that feature/option even worth the money for the trolling motor depth finder?

It's personal preference. I always thought I wanted sidevu on the trolling motor until I got Panoptix. Then I didn't see any need for sidevu. However the last unit I put on the front of the boat has sidevu in Ultra Hi Definition and I love it.

That should make things clear as mud for you!!

Don’t let people tell you that it doesn’t work ok at slow speeds, is it necessary??? No, but not much that we buy is necessary. I posted a few pics in the thread below, all from the trolling motor mounted si transducer.

It depends on the amount you are needing to spend or not to spend, but for the trolling motor I suggest the HDI transducer.
If you are trying to keep your cost low, look at the HOOK2 HDI models with Lowrance. The HDI models in 5, 7, 9 inch screens will provide Sonar, Downscan and GPS Mapping. If you want true mapping stay away from the models with 'x'. With the HOOK2 Lowrance unit 'X' means that it only has a GPS Plotter with no maps, but if you don't want true mapping up front the 'x' models can same additional money. If you can spend more go on up the Lowrance line to Elite Ti or Carbon models.

Thanks that helps a ton, I was confused on the hook and hook2, I thought the hook2 was old.

The HOOK2 series replaced the original Hook series. The HOOK2 is brand new in the Lowrance product line. They added memory & processor power over the original Hook units. In addition the HOOK2 can be purchased with HDI transducer for trolling motor or Triple Shot (Total Scan) for the console. The Triple Shot provides Down & Side Scanning where the HDI is only Downscan. Both transducers also provide regular 2D Sonar. Call me if you wish to discuss the Lowrance product line - 817-319-1194.
