what are your feelings on the new Lowrance update ? - 03/16/18 07:10 PM

i use both Humminbird and Lowrance units. i like the look but the Lowrance said there was lots of fish under my boat but my bird say saying there was not anything. I am not sure how accurate it is. my fish finders are Humminbird 9 SI non mega and Lowrance 5ti.

That is not an easy question to answer. How far apart are the transducers and what kHz are they running? How deep was the water?

If you were seeing them on the bow transducer the boat may have spooked them and they would never show on the stern one.

One of the few complaints I have heard about hummingbird was with their 2d sonar and it not showing fish very well. Wayne P. can shed more light on the subject for us, he is the bird guru and what he says will be the truth.

While the new Lowrance "Fish Reveal" looks great I see the fish the same on my bird with Mega image and or 455kHz. The only difference is on my bird they are not the 2D sonar coloration and 2D Sonar Arches. I have not had the pleasure of being on the water with it 1st hand at this time.
I do like the new color palettes for the HDS Carbon.

It is an simple as knowing how to use your equipment and when comparing two units using the same frequencies on both units at the same boat speed and knowing how sonar represents fish.

Humminbird Fish I.D. has been around from the very beginning.

The new Fish Reveal downscan technology is very different from anyone's sonar Fish ID.

Yes it is 2D sonar fish arches overlayed on the Down Scan view.
Just the opposite of overlaying Down Scan on 2D sonar that the units have.

My responses above concerned fish being displayed with Humminbirds as noted in grout-scout's post.

I guess that is what I was trying to say.

Hope this helps - The new Fish Reveal by Lowrance is not Fish ID or simple 2D overlay, this is the real fish arches from the CHIRP or Broadband sonar interlaced via proprietary software in with the downscan image.
This new capability is going to help the average fisherman move off the shoreline. From the images I have seen on my units during testing, it is a game changer. I will get some screen shots off Lake Palestine & Holbrook when I can.

Installed the new upgrade on my Elite 9TI and I can’t tell any difference. I don’t expect the images to look like the carbon images but I expected to see something change

Are the fish marks from the 455/800khz or the 83/200 kHz?

I don’t want to sound too stupid, you did turn the fish reveal option on, right? Did you adjust the sensitivity any?

This fish arches are initially generated from Sonar 83/200/Chirp.
If you installed the software and can't see anything once you are on the water or in simulator mode, call me.
You have both down-scan color pallets and fish reveal color pallets which allow the fish arches to stand out in a different color.

These pics are from the testing software. Lowrance does a good job with using staff to test products/software before they bring it to the market.

Rob, in the first pic, DI, wpt 214 is shown. Is this from a previous wpt or a wpt marked while the DI screen was active.

I know newly created wpts are shown when the active screen is marked but if Lowrance is now showing previously made wpts that is a great update. If they aren't please forward a suggestion to do so; DI and SI. I'd really like that feature.

I had just put this weigh-point down as I passed over this area. Like that little ditch with some fish showing up along with that area with the two stick-ups.
This is #1 Pallet and #1 Fish Reveal color.

I have a Gen3 unit on my boat, and have used the new fish reveal on a couple of fishing days. from an average guy, i think it is really going to help see the fish. i always liked DI, but sometimes find it hard to pick fish out of weeds/brush. Now, i use the blue screen for the down imaging, and change the fish reveal to the red color pallet. they really stick out on the unit. i've been fishing shallow a lot, but i did make several passes through some deeper water to see what it looks like.

i'm curious to see what others think about it.
