This will be the 4th year in a row for this event, we typically have somewhere between 18-30 boats.

Please note that Athens is under special regulations per the TPWD
Quote:
For largemouth bass, length limit is a 14-21” slot. Bass 14 inches and less or 21 inches or greater in length may be retained. Only one largemouth bass 21 inches or greater may be retained each day. For smallmouth bass (if present), minimum length = 14 inches. No minimum length on spotted, Guadalupe, and Alabama bass (if present.) Daily bag limit for all species = 5 black bass in any combination.

what this boils down to is:
if you fish as a 2 angler team, you may weigh in up to 2 over 21"
If you fish solo, you may only weigh in 1 fish over 21"

For this event - we will allow only 1 over to be weighed in per boat. We will do this for the following reasons:
1. Fish care - this weekend is going to be very, very hot, will be more difficult to keep 2 overs healthy than 1 over and 4 unders.
2. Controversy avoidance - technically to weigh in 2 fish each angler must catch one. however we have no way of enforcing such a rule. i am sure everyone is honest, but this will prevent anyone else from wondering.
3. Fairness - this evens the playing field somewhat for single vs. team entry. hard enough to compete with only 1 bait in the water at a time.

..... fun tournament ....
last year my wife fished with me ...... 8-11pm, then she went home and slept until 5am --- picked her up at the dock and she fished with me until weigh-in.

Agree with the TDs decision to allow only 1 over per team.. should be a good one.. 1 big over probably wins the whole thing.. which is kinda cool.. get out there and enjoy the cool 80 to 90 degree temps smile much better at night.. at least better than 110...

Athens has some giants! Then again, some team will probably come in with 5 unders and take it.. anyone could win!

Re: Athens - OPEN - Jul 21 Night T - Texas Poormans - 07/23/18 10:35 PM

overnight weather was surprisingly pleasant, we had a nice breeze all night and low humidity.

Record turnout for a poormans night T - 34 boats, so we had a really good crowd, quite a few overs weighed in.

Slot fish bit all night long, keepers were hard to find.
