A forgot to do review of the new tippet a must have!

Well I have gotten a little stir crazy because I have not been on the water in almost a week. Just got me to thinking I never did a report back on the new tippet. I'm sure most of you on here like me are from Texas and did not grow up flyfishing. I still have a hard time getting away from conventional beer fishing for bass. Fishing tournaments and wanting to know I have the best advantage when it came to line was seagar invisix yellow label hands down. Seagar now has yellow label grand max tippet yes it was 60$ for three spools and yes they are only 25 yards. I got trout stuff 5-6x and sandbass stuff 3x I have given both an extensive work out now after getting back from Colorado and being on the year long "run" for striper and sandbass. Exactly like they're yellow label for conventional the knot strength abrasion resistance and invisibility seems to be far superior from anything I've used. I said I was going to use up my Rio floro flex I could not take it and finally got out the grand max. I will not be switching back I have already noticed catch rates increased by Fishing side to side with friends. I will say it is a little bit stiffer than some but definitely helps turning over flies and getting nymphs down. I'm not sure I've seen it for sale anywhere yet except directly from them if you see it out there though it's definitely well worth the few extra dollars

What about tapered leaders? I've tried Rio, Umqua and Cabela's, with my preference in that order. I lost a nice bass this morning that looked to be a five pounder...I had the Cabela's leader tied on and I got broke off in clear water a few feet from a grass bed. No obstructions, no cover of any kind. Saw the take, set the hook, and watched the fish swim away with the fly in his mouth after the leader failed.

At some point I'm sure I'll get into tying my own leaders, but in the meantime I'd appreciate any feedback from you or any of the other longtime fly fishermen (and women) on this forum.

1960 Texas I use sientific anglers 7'6" tapered mono leaders. I like just the little extra stretch of mono for hard hook sets. Then a tripple surgeons loop to attach the floro around 3". If using a tippet ring double improved clinch holds the most of a line rate strength.

I noticed the 3X is 9.2 lb. test. I'm surprised you use that heavy of a tippet for sand bass.

Jaimie you could use the 12pound on sandbass!The stuff is so incredibly invisible underwater it does not matter. I have fished this stuff in some of the not only clearest water that is not in a bottle, but also some of the most pressured water at the same time from other anglers. On some of the most fabled Bass lakes in the country that are highly pressured with anglers from all over country unless I just have to go down to 15 pound smaller diameter to get a crank bait down just a little bit deeper I'm throwing 20 pound or nothing. the fish do you not notice the difference at all and when I hook into a fish of a lifetime I have the confidence of got the backbone to get them in . This being said it would add 20 or so fish in between having to retie from their teeth fraying the line. The extruding process seagar uses is unmatched in consistency,and maintain superior knot strength. I did notice on the online store they actually have some tapered leaders now as well for flyfishing I truly have so much confidence in their products I may be making a full switch. I have been using the 10# invisix for sandbass tippet(20$ 200 yards main line conventional line) for almost ten years. It's yet to ever let me down other than seeing a wind knot or something I know I should retie but not doing it. I really only got the 3x just to check out. I will be sticking with the invisix for sure when it comes to 8 pound or higher rated line because 200 yards for 20 bucks is amazing for tippit. 5,6,7x trout stuff though I want her using grand maxx for sure!

I also ment to add 1960 Texan good luck on that bass in round two! I've caught more than a handful of bass over ten pounds came close but havnt hit the teens yet, but I am still devastated losing a three pounder lol. I always said I lose that love hate on a fish coming unbuttoned I need to quit fishing.....I do t think that day is coming anytime soon.
