Fishing the S. Llano river - 08/01/17 02:26 PM
We'll be at the S. Llano river state park in September. I imagine the area directly around it gets hammered pretty bad, but anyone have any tips for catching a guadalupe bass on a fly rod in this river? Better spots upstream or downstream? I will have a kayak. Catch & release of course. Thank you!

Guadalupe Bass generally like current. You can still find them anywhere you would find a largemouth, but if my main objective was to catch one I'd focus on the tailout of riffles, a size #6 clouser is probably the best thing to ties on.

put in at the first crossing above S llano state park and drift down. Lots of fish; never caught any really big ones but lots of good action on a 3 weight.-p-

Which crossing? Looking on google maps it looks like the river is flowing north - is that correct? Do you recall how long it took to float it to the state park? It seems to be a slow moving river - not much current. Is that correct?
