Hitting the guad this time of year?

Is it worth it? I'm gonna be in Austin from Monday-Saturday but is the fishing any good mid summer? I'm bringing the 6 weight and I'm gonna take my girlfriend fishing but if the Guadalupe isn't good right now I'll probably just go to some creeks for bass and sunfish.

Take sz 2 chartreuse and white clousers and some good craw patterns bud. Fish for striper early and late and smallmouth all day. I really think it's one of the most underrated smallmouth rivers in the country. With recent floods also full of striper again!! Should be a blast!!!! Yes there should be some exceptional trout fishing close to the dam especially with the brown releases the last couple of years. This time of year I would just let them rest because there are plenty of other fish to catch good luck.

Don't forget about the carp too. There are some giants running around in the Guad. Since the Guadalupe is a tailwater, I find that it fishes really well for bass during the summer as long as you are up early enough to avoid the tubers.

With that said, Barton Creek is my favorite place to fish and if you've got a spare morning, Lost Creek is a great place to kill a couple of hours. The creek is running really low right now though which is a double edged sword because it makes the fish easier to find, but it's just not as much fun as it usually is. We do need some substantial rain soon to recharge everything or else I may be making a post on here to recruit some volunteer to help save some fish by moving them down to permanent waters.

Depending on what part of the Guadalupe you will be fishing. Tubing season is in full swing. Lot's of tubers and swimmers taking advantage of the water conditions and beating the heat. If you can find a secluded spot with light tubing traffic you will catch fish. Best time of the year to fish the Guadalupe is a week after Labor day all the way to the following Memorial Day! Just my two cents.

Yes early and late will be best for sure. Early in the morning start at popular takeouts and work back. In the evening start at popular launches and work down. Most will tell you when they stop letting people launch. Although I was an odd fit I molted and took flight with the rubber hatch one day last year. There were floating islands tied up all around me. One of the loaded patrons looked at me and ask why I had a "cane pole" with me that nothing was going to bite with all the people. 15 fish and only 30 min in he said you made me a liar LOL. Bit hard to balance and cast but caught smb,lmb, and gills all the way down. This time of year people float the river all day if they quit eating every time a person floated over they would starve to death lol. May not be as aesthetically pleasing but can be" scenic" if you know what I mean. I have seen the same thing in Pagosa Springs. if you could get 10 yards in between groups and get a good drift you could pull trout right out from their toes Lol. The best striper fishing I've had Brendan was right at dark and after dark but I've caught a ton of bass mostly smallmouth or crosses right in the middle of the rubber hatch. Oh and 6 is plenty of rod probably have more fun with a 3 or 4wt. Honestly.

The striper bite is getting really tough most the stripers have been fished out (good news for the trout). As for trout fishing, unless you're fishing within a mile or so of the dam and in the morning. The waters to warm to responsibly C & R.

I'm staying at my girlfriend's house in Buda so we plan on fishing some creeks by her house. Other than that I'm gonna hit the Guad tomorrow.
