Bridgeport Bluegills (video) - 06/14/17 06:00 PM
My wife and I went after Bluegills on Lake Bridgeport last week. We didn't catch anything huge and most of what we caught were Green Sunfish - not that I'm complaining (they are one of my favorites)but it makes the title a little misleading. We shot the video "gonzo" style, which is a term FishyB and I came up with that basically means you keep a camera within reach, then you just fish. If something interesting happens you grab the camera and shoot, no tripods, camera steadies, no staged shots, planning things out or following a script, just handheld, shooting what's in front of you. The good side of this is that you get to spend a lot more time fishing than fiddling with camera equipment and the editing is a lot more simple. None of this, blending multiple camera angles, syncing audio, moving clips to fit in chronological order business. The down side is that the footage is pretty shaky at times (I tell myself its like the old photojournalism shoots and its supposed to be like your "really there", the truth is, its probably just to lazy to drag a tripod out and take the time to do it right.) And, sometimes there is no rhyme or reason to a gonzo video. usually the beginning seems to start in the middle and the ending just cuts off. I do try to think these things out a little before hand - I've gotten better about not starting a video with someone fighting a fish and no lead up to that point. So, here it is. Hope you guys enjoy it and, as always, constructive criticism is welcome.
