Bridgeport Bluegills (video)

Bridgeport Bluegills (video) - 06/14/17 06:00 PM

My wife and I went after Bluegills on Lake Bridgeport last week. We didn't catch anything huge and most of what we caught were Green Sunfish - not that I'm complaining (they are one of my favorites)but it makes the title a little misleading. We shot the video "gonzo" style, which is a term FishyB and I came up with that basically means you keep a camera within reach, then you just fish. If something interesting happens you grab the camera and shoot, no tripods, camera steadies, no staged shots, planning things out or following a script, just handheld, shooting what's in front of you. The good side of this is that you get to spend a lot more time fishing than fiddling with camera equipment and the editing is a lot more simple. None of this, blending multiple camera angles, syncing audio, moving clips to fit in chronological order business. The down side is that the footage is pretty shaky at times (I tell myself its like the old photojournalism shoots and its supposed to be like your "really there", the truth is, its probably just to lazy to drag a tripod out and take the time to do it right.) And, sometimes there is no rhyme or reason to a gonzo video. usually the beginning seems to start in the middle and the ending just cuts off. I do try to think these things out a little before hand - I've gotten better about not starting a video with someone fighting a fish and no lead up to that point. So, here it is. Hope you guys enjoy it and, as always, constructive criticism is welcome.

Thanks for the comments guys!
FishyB - we need to hit the carp flats soon. It seems like the summer is already getting away from me. Lots to do.

RonL - I like Vimeo because I don't run into all the hassle with music like on UTube. I'm not sure what the buyout means, is that a good thing or something to be concerned about, or do we know yet?

Am I still allowed to go? Your granddaughter catches carp better than me! smile Loved the picture buddy, priceless stuff and she will remember that! Just watch out, it won't take long and she will only want to catch big game on the fly!!

Let me know when you got a break on a Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon.

Oh don't worry Fishy, we're going. You may have to make room for Lily though - she has already been asking me teach her to fly cast.
All she has caught up till then was Bluegills. I think that carp has really got her cranked up about fishing.
