Any Tenkara rod users out there? Looking at getting my first one and any advise on rod selection.
Thanks
Fish On!
Depends on your price range really. A really great "all around" Tenkara rod that can handle good fish on 5x tippet is the Tenkarabum 36 as seen on Tenkarabum.com. I have fished Tenkara style for 4 years now. It's a great way to catch fish! I have even used larger fixed line carp rods ( Nissin Kyogi) and landed carp to 16 lbs on 7lbs line (no reel. The technique allows the rod to absorb the fight and forces you to be an angler. Takes it back to the basics. Rod, line, fish. I highly recommend it to anyone. I have yet to introduce someone to the technique who did not turn around and buy a rod. It replaced any fly rod I would use for smaller creeks, streams. On small water it is the most natural way to present a fly imo. Not uncommon for me to land larger fish on 5x or less. All about the anglers ability. Fun, Fun, Fun.
