online fly shops?

hey all!

looking for some resources to get flies on the cheap. Have checked out Cabellas but wanted to see other options as well. I've found a place called flyshack.com though im not entirely sure if this is a safe option. Would appreciate any sources so I can develop my arsenal some as fly tying may not be written in my fate just yet

the fly stop has been my go to for a while. Cheap, decent quality, and quick shipping. They ship from Pennsylvania and I typically get my stuff within 3 days on their standard shipping.

ETSY is a source for flies. I use The Fly Guy for trout flies.

I can second Big Y. those guys are great.

When you buy from ANY discount fly source, you will have to reconcile to the reality that consistency is not going to be perfect. Most of the time you will be satisfied for the money you paid, but every now and then you'll get a batch that is just bad. The thing about fishing though... it's not just the pretty flies that get eaten.

Two rules for ordering discount flies: 1) Invest in a hook sharpener and learn how to use it. 2) Don't get heartburn if you get a bad batch.

Even when you have to toss out the bad ones, you'll still be ahead in your pocket book and you won't have missed any fish because of it.

Best overall is Big Y. They're consistent and in general don't cheap out. In other words, if the pattern requires certain materials their offerings will include them (ex, pheasant tails with wire, or flashbacks). Flyshack flies are awful, very cheap, and stingy on materials. I found out the hard way after a $300 order on flies.

HOWEVER, Flyshack fly tying section is the best on the internet.

Basic question: what kind of flies?

I just ordered from big Y. Ordered emergers, bwo s , pheasant tails, etc. They look great
