Central Texas Fly Fishing - 01/28/22 02:15 AM

Hello fellow anglers, My name is Joseph Lopez , I am 19 years old and I am currently a student at Texas A&M studying Ecology and Conservation Biology. I am looking to start this forum in a outcome to obtain a group of amazing anglers for communication and learning. I do both style of fishing , conventional and fly but i enjoy the fly way more. I am open to having tying sessions and sharing vital information of central Texas's hidden fly gems. Feel free to join but please no negativity. Fishing is a way to connect with nature and with others so all positivity is respected. I live near College Station and Somerville so I am a fan of the Yegua ! I do love me some Guadalupe Trout though! Check out this fish i caught a couple days ago. Drop your favorite gem to fly fish!

Nice fish! I’m positive I like fishing, well, most of it. Anyhow, enjoy connecting with nature and having the fish pull your line. Lots of water to fish in Central Texas, maybe not a lot suitable for Salmonids or Esocidae, but plenty of other worthy fish.

Went out to the Guadelupe yesterday. Fish rising from deep pools looking for BWO's and small hexa's . Looked like they were hitting emergers but we didnt get a bite.FIshed up close to Sandy Beach. Taking some more time to figure them out, still love going out there and seeing the gorgeous fish and scenery for some photos. Right now I am planning to post alot of Guad updates as well as the Somerville Yegua area. Thanks!

Went out to Nails Creek with J-Moe, didn't catch a thing. We are so close to the run here in Somerville area just a matter of weeks now. Creek is still muddy, little flow and still kind of high from rain . Hope to get out again soon, glad to help!

Here are a few ties from about a month ago. My version of a BWO dry on the top left and some mayfly/quill dries on the right. Also my take of a stimulator in the middle with orange. Using this on an upcoming Yellowstone trip. Lastly, a bright emerger of some sort on the bottom left. Was using the BWO at the guad not too long ago and had some looks and swirls but im thinking the dry dropper is going to be the key. Especially a little later in the morning when the sun is almost all the way over canyon and shines on river. They are able to see smaller dries easier as well as emergers that follow. Had some great fish caught on streamers mostly. Anyone who has been to the guad lately, how is it? Going back soon but i have been focusing on the white bass run right now! feel free to drop some ties of yalls own and as always , tight lines! Feel free to reach out if anyone wants to fly fish

Joseph, Im also at TAMU. J-Moe introduced me to the forum recently. I go to the Guad pretty often during trout season. Went for the last time for trout about a week ago. I've rarely had luck with dries on the Guad unless its in the late evening or super early. Usually catching on suspension double nymph rigs or small streamers.

Howdy. I’m glad to hear TAMU is still cranking out some biologists. If you want a big pull on your rod, find some carp. roflmao And don’t forget saltwater. There is some great fly rod saltwater action found at the coast. grin

The shad spawn is in full on at Lake Somerville. I have been wade fishing with the fly rod in the mornings catching white bass, hybrids and lmb. The area around Welch park has been very productive.

I would like to try this at Belton, Stillhouse and Georgetown Lakes. Can anyone share a good area to chase white bass and hybrids during the shad spawn.

Been fishing many waters lately here in College Station such as White Creek, Bee Creek, Hopes Creek, Jones Crossing, and the Little Brazos River. Using Hopper Dropper techniques and other topwater bug strategies has been working out fairly well. Always up to fishing with new people and learning new waters!
