New to Fly Fishing - 05/24/19 01:54 PM

Was planning on hitting the Guadalupe next week with my son we both have just started fly fishing. Could anyone point me in the right direction as to what parks or areas to start fishing is any of this river deep enough to launch a jon boat in? I have an 18 ft Lowe that I can run pretty shallow. Or is it a river you can wade down? Thanks for any help!

I love fishing Cypress Bend Park in the middle of New Braunfels. This time of year you need to get up early to beat the tube hatch, but there is a great beach area which provides plenty of room for casting. There are tons of eager bass and sunfish which readily take flies. You can launch a boat from there as well and you'll probably cover more ground, but if you're learning, I would just start with wade fishing.

Alternatively, Lazy L&L allows day passes which gives you full access to the tail waters of the Guadalupe for $10. It has some great water and during the summer months the bass fishing is great thanks to the lower temperatures. The flow rate on the Guadalupe also dropped recently, so you shouldn't have any issues wade fishing.
