Gatlinburg-Pidgeon Forge flyfishing

Headed up there in September. Any good areas to do a little fly fishing? Also looking for a place to stay for a week.

Contact the people at the Smoky Mountain Angler in Gatlinburg. https://www.smokymountainangler.com. They were at the fly fishing show in Plano earlier this year and did a really nice presentation on fishing inside the national park.

Fished out of Bryson City (NC side of national park) last October and caught some very nice browns and rainbows with Micah Allen as drifting boat guide on Tuckasagee river. Fish much bigger there than in the park. Micah's number is 828-341-0845. Pic below is 5 lb. brown my son caught on the trip.

And Bryson City area is a lot less tourist trappy than Tennessee side. We rented a cabin overlooking the valley - very nice. Think we found it on VRBO.

I was there the first week of August. The Little River is not far from Gatlinburg and it is beautiful. Rainbows/browns

Hope you enjoy your visit as much as we did. Bryson City is pretty small, but there is an Italian restaurant there that is pretty good and there is a small fly fishing museum that is interesting. The fishing license situation is a little complicated because some of the waters in the area are on tribal land and they have a separate license. There is also a license that is specific to a roughly county sized area that includes Bryson City and is a good deal, as I recall less than $10 for three days for non-residents. A fishing guide can give you details on that option. For more high-tone dining and tourist options Asheville is about 70 miles to the east. And of course plan on spending at least one full day touring the national park; we saw black bears and elk from the road.
