“O’l Reliable” fly rod needs some loven. - 08/03/18 11:15 PM
I have a fly rod that is about a year old. It has been handled many a time and seen quite a bit of action.
However, the wood putty/filler that is in the cork has been coming out.
Is there a brand of filler that you would recommend for a light refurbish??

Mudhole sells Elmer's Golden Oak Wood Filler to use as a filler material. Being Elmer's, I would imagine you could find it at most hardware stores, lumber yards, Wal Mart, etc.

I rubbed a cork on sand paper and used the powder mixed with glue. Filled the holes and sand papered smooth. Then coated whole handle with polyurethane, sanded it smooth gave a seconed coat, still going twenty years on.

Linecaster, I have used the “glue and wood” trick when putting handles on knives.
In addition, you actually answered my next question about a laqur fihish.
By the time I put a filler in there and give it a light sanding, it will look like new.
