Zebra Mussels in Lake Travis

Zebra Mussels in Lake Travis - 10/21/17 07:25 PM

This week a customer of mine was motoring his sailboat over to another yard for a haul-out. He noticed that his knot meter was not working. When they got it hauled and up on stands he looked at the paddle wheel for the knot meter and there was a huge zebra mussel attached to it, preventing it from turning. They're officially here..

They probably have been. This is just the first time I've heard from anyone with a direct exposure to them..

I just got back to Texas from a steelhead trip on Lake Erie and they are pulling the boats out for the winter and it's amazing how many zebras are on the lower units.

We were getting warnings from TPWD for almost two years before we really saw them. After the flood of 2015 they EXPLODED from one end of the lake to the other.
