Hi. Is cast net allowed in Texas for catching bait?

Thanks

Yes. In freshwater it has to have a 14 foot diameter or less. May only catch nongame fish.

Thank you all. I just want to try catching minnows or sheds.

Minnows are tough as the net holes are often too large and allows them through. Most cast nets are designed for shad.

You can get 1/4-inchers, but you'd probably have to look online. That size would be a little better for minners, but the smaller ones will still slip through. If you find one, I'd opt for a small diameter since small creeks are often the best places to find bait.

I've always had better luck with minnow traps in creeks for minnows, but for shad, a cast net is the way to go.
