Trim trouble!

Trim trouble! - 02/22/15 02:05 AM

I launched my boat this afternoon and my motor wouldn't trim down, so I had a short trip.It powered up fine as I removed the transom saver. I tried all the switches, first the one on the shifter, then the one at the front and finally the one on the motor. I had to reload my boat with my trolling motor. Have any of y'all had this problem in the past. I have two boats with power tilt and trim but have never had any issues before. It makes me think I have a bad wire but I guess it could be a contact problem. Thanks in advance for your input!

you have a relay out. Switch them and it should do the opposite to check.

Have you worked on any of the instruments under you console. Years ago I installed a 12 volt outlet and pulled a wire connector apart and I could trim up but not down. Make sure everything is snapped together tightly as mine was just pulled apart far enough to not work but still looked okay with only a quick glance.

tap lightly on the trim motor, the brushes might be hung up. just lightly

Yep, start with the easiest fix first then progress if that don't fix it

I had same problem on Falcon 2 or 3 years ago. Fortunately I realized what was going on before I got the engine trimmed all the way up and was able to limp back to the ramp. Took it to a local shop, 30 minutes & $25 cash to replace a relay we were back in business.

Hope you get it fixed quickly and cheaply. I also agree to try the easy fixes first, just giving a personal experience.
