4th of July

4th of July - 07/01/14 02:16 PM

Long story short I have a "Family Friendly" boat this year and would like to take wife and kid to see fireworks at the lake.
What lake would be the best to do this at?
What part of the lake?

Whatever lake you choose the best show will probably be the boat ramp loading and unloading fiasco

On lake Grapevine there is a fireworks show every friday night coming from the Gaylord but I believe on that side of the lake there is going to be a good size one also. Not sure if I can post this link or not but here it is Fireworks

I heard Grapevine is a no/go due to low water and not many boat ramps left open.

It's not on the 4th, but Saturday at Cedar Creek is the air show with fire works afterwords.

The Colony has an amazing display over Lake Lewisville and big event at the park. Boat ramp is nuts and they close it when it gets full. Get the boat in before 5 PM and plan on staying out on the lake till the ramp traffic clears.

Lewisville is horrifying on the 4th... I wouldn't brave it with children and my family even though it is amazing with all the shows, it isn't worth the drama and risk at all IMO

Grapevine is always fun. You can usually see multiple fireworks shows. That being said, our boat is already on the water. No way would I fight the ramps.

If was going to trailer my boat somewhere it would definitely be Cedar Creek. I've heard the air show is pretty spectacular.

Cedar Creek is always a good show, not just the big show, but also all the lakefront property owners shooting off their own stuff. We used to go out there every year on the 4th and watch the fireworks while fishing.

I went to the website this sounds good. Do you know or recommend a certain boat ramp?

log cabin or don's port, of the 2 i've only been to log cabin and it's nice, but parking could be limited. Both are probably about the same boat ride to the event. The public ramp in caney city is usable, but it was a mad house last year when everyone was trying to leave, and I mean chaos. 1.5-2 hour wait to just get trailer to ramp.

I expect all of the ramps to be chaos. Dons Port has extremely limited parking.

I will not be going out on our boat on Conroe this weekend. Three dead when bass boat struck another boat last night. One of the boats was not using running lights. Two women and a young boy killed.

Please- always use running lights from dusk to dawn, keep your speed down and watch for other boats and PWC.

Prayers to all involved.

One of the reasons I plan to wrap my boat with LED's

It amazes me the amount of people that do not use running lights. Was out on Lake Waco last weekend and caught somebody running about 30 - 40 mph without them on. They are lucky I did not have my phone on me.

Lake Fork had an awesome show last year out of Oak Ridge. My wife and I sat out in the boat after fishing and watched. We were staying at the Minnow Bucket in the RV though so we didn't have to fight the crowds leaving. Went back to camp, had a couple cold ones then took the boat out after the crowd was gone.
