How many rods can you have? - 09/14/12 09:32 PM

I noticed the recent thread about limiting people to two poles on docks etc.

Since I was a little kid my family always told me that two rods was the legal limit?

How many rods can you have????

as many as you want most of the time. some parks have different rules. up to a 99 or 100 hook limit. when i bank fish for catfish, i routinely fish 4-6 rods. from the boat, some guys fish up to 20.

You can have up to 100 hooks. Per person. So if you only have a single hook for each pole, then you can have 100 fishing poles. You can not have a 100 hook trot line in the water and fish with a rid and reel at the same time. That constitutes over 100.

I tell my wife that TP&W has a law that says "only 25 rods per boat allowed on Lake Fork" and I had heard they might raise it to 30 by next year

I have a whole mess of them, but I fish with only my bass rod and reel. All my attention is needed for the one rod if I am going to land the fish.

No limit on rods, if you just have them on the boat or with you. Like others have said you can only have 100 hooks in the water (any combination of trot lines, jug lines, limb lines, rod lines, etc). As far as docks, you can have a hundred rods or more with you but you can only have two lines in the water.

There are many lake-specific rules. For example, TPWD says on community fishing lakes it is 2 rods per person. Now even at state parks (from structures) it is also 2 rods per person.

My wife tells me if I see rod and reel on sale...."Get it honey!". So she said you can't pass up that deal. So I helped myself.
