Lake Bastrop & game wardens - 03/07/10 03:26 AM
If you go to Lake Bastrop, you will be checked by the game warden. The TPWD aluminum boat pulled up today with 3 officers onboard this time. Officer Kris Bishop (Bastrop County), Officer Joann Garza-Mayberry (Caldwell County) and another male officer were out there today.
Unlike the times in the past, the male officer identified all of the TPWD people onboard and told us of their intentions to check out licenses and equipment.
Everything went smoothly and we parted ways. I greatly appreciate the professionalism they showed today.
been to the lake 10 times this year and havent seen one out there.

I get checked quite a bit too but I usually end up knowing the local warden.

Bastrop is known as a training lake.
Our personal record is 4 times stopped in one day, each with the same GW but different trainees.

Pretty amazing, my club fished there Saturday as well and none of us were checked or even saw a Game Warden. In fact I've fished Bastrop several times a year for 30 years and have never been checked there.
Now Fayette ..... that's a different story!!! LOL

4 times in a day. I would be a little pizzed off if that happened to me. I for sure would make a call to their boss. Training lake or not, thats bull. It gets me when there are drunk 17 and 18 year olds on daddys 50,000 dollar boat, that never get stopped, but if a game warden sees a fisherman, we are screwed!! We could be minding our own business, and they could be doing 50 in a no wake zone, and we will get stopped. I rarely ever see a skier pulled over, but a fisherman will get stopped everytime. Get a life Wardens!!

There is a silver lining to everything.
By the time the warden had checked everyone on the lake the first time, there were only 4 boats left on the lake. Somewhere around 20 started the day.
Be legal and you're good.
I see a warden on Bastrop most times I fish it. I don't mind them, if your stuff is in order it takes 5 minutes max out of your fishing, usually less.
