Lake Travis drought report August 2022

Lake Travis drought report August 2022 - 08/15/22 10:42 PM

As of this writing the lake is 50% full, and dropping about a foot a week! A FOOT! The low water levels reveal things not normally seen like sunken sailboats and foundations of buildings. Doesn’t hurt the fishing either!

Our dock on Lake Travis has been sitting in the dirt for about a month now. This is the fourth or fifth time I can recall the water being this low since my parents bought the property back in 1975....so, every decade or so. Part of the joy of having waterfront property on a flood control lake as the water levels have and always will fluctuate greatly. It can drop a foot a week or it can come up 25 feet in one DAY. She'll be back. I just hope it doesn't take 4 years like it did when last decade's drought hit.

It doesn't hurt the fishing because the fish are concentrated in a lot less water.

That’s true! In 2018 the water came up within 4’ or out house in PV!

That’s true, and it reveals structure that was previously unseen

Well we were 36.42 low before this giant rainfall the last two days. Now we're at 36.42 low. Sorry for the sarcasm we just didn't get enough of it. The good news is my yard is happier than it's been in 3 months!!

Everybody talks about it being super low. Well I remember in the late 2000's it was like 56' low. I am not in Texas right now so I was wondering if I want to drag the boat down come November. Looks like I will be.

As of today (8-22) it’s 844.5, 51% full and almost a foot down from a week ago, even with these rains!

I would, you could fish Lake Austin or LBJ if Travis is still too low

Bee Creek was flowing at the low water bridge yesterday. Nearly brought a tear to my eye! Need SOOO much more though!

Slightly off-topic, (but related to Travis' condition) is what happened to Bee Creek Rd. when it was taken over by Rough Hollow, and now with hundreds more homes and a huge school built alongside a freakin' TWO LANE ROAD!! I usually take BCRd when going to and from Lakeway to my home in Briarcliff, but no longer between 2:30 and 5. The mid-afternoon traffic snarl is exasperating.

You're not kiddin, Herb! At certain times, I just have to close my eyes, punch it and hope for the best when pulling out onto Bee Creek Rd from our driveway. LOL

That winery/brewery on Bob Wire has created a really special adventure at the Bob Wire/Bee Creek intersection, too. So many of those folks leaving the winery seem to think the stop sign is optional after having a few.

...and to bring this discussion back on topic, I see on LCRA's Hydromet website, there is some actual flow in the rivers and tributaries above Travis and Buchanan. It's a start!
