Possum Kingdom Smallmouth - 08/24/20 02:34 AM
Well, I've read the occasional thread on PK smallmouth. we have a house on PK and have met a few people who are locals and T anglers, and they say they catch a SMB about once every 2 to 3 years, so yes there must be a small population of SMB that eeks out a life.
Well, good news!! my wife and I were taking a walk, and we walked down by the boat ramp at the Harbor and ran into a group of TX DNR guys who clearly just came back from a stocking run and were pulling their boats out and getting ready to head home. I asked what they were stocking and expected the typical LMB or Striper answer, but they said they just stocked 45,000 fingerling smallmouths! yes, I got that right from the mouths of the guys who just put them in the lake.
this was in April ( I think) 2020 so by summer of 2022 we should have 8" to 10" catchable SMB. very exciting. hope the golden algae keeps its distance as the guys did confirm that they have been reluctant to stock SMB b/c they are very susceptible to it.
Hope they keep more stocking coming!!!
