Just in time for the tilapia mafia to show up with their nets.

You are going to be able to walk across the decks of boats because it will be so packed. IMO they should allow ALOT less boats on the water at once

Not good this lake needs to be shut down for about three years

Agreed.

Or they need to quit letting constant tournaments every weekend.. and let less people on the lake! After like Ranger1 said, close it down for a few years

The interesting part is that they are extending the closing time to 6 pm. I wonder if they realize that it is dark in the winter at 6 pm? There workers should love that. roflmao

Curiosity gets the better me some times so I have to ask for some follow up to some of these statements.

What would get so much better if the lake was shutdown for 3 years? How long should it be opened before another 3 year rest? I am really curious about this because last time the lake was shutdown there were no Tilapia in it and I wonder if they are the cause of the decline in bass size but not reduction in numbers and what would they do if they go unchecked for 3 years.

Do you think Luminant has the authority to not allow tournaments on Squaw Creek?
How could they enforce that? There are less than 10 tournaments a year where a trailer type weigh in setup is brought in. The constant every weekend ones must be small clubs or just thrown together jackpots. I did not see that many on any schedule or the tournament section on here. Would a MLF style catch and release style fix the problems you perceive? How many tournaments should they allow if they can control it.

Are we not wanting tournaments because the tournament fisherman are rude or because they responsible for the fish disappearance of bass over 6 pounds and the fun fisherman are not or something else?

How many boats a day should be allowed in your opinion and what is that based on? They are shooting for 100 by the way. The reservations at 150 typically ends up under 100 with the no shows. It has more to do with evacuation of the lake in an emergency and size of the parking area than how many people are in someones favorite spot or how many bass might get caught in a day.

Do bass fisherman who are catch and release have more right to the lake than cast netters removing an invasive species and feeding their family? I know it is annoying when they are in an area I like but there are so many areas that they can not cast nets we just move. I think they are providing a service by removing the too large for anything but the gator to eat Tilapia from the lake.

I thought closing for six months when most of the lake is around 100 and only opening 3 days instead of 4 were good changes that impacted less people but would still reduce the fishing pressure. If 150 actually showed up most days the one less day would be close to 4000 less boats on the water in the six months.

The off the water time of 5:30 pm will be adjusted to stay before dark as the sun sets earlier.

I suggested less tournaments for the simple fact of the health of the fish.. Seemed like there was tournaments every other weekend. Think if you catch a good keeper within the first 10 minutes of fishing. Do you think it is good for that fish to be in that livewell for 8 hours???? I think MLF style would be a great solution.

I say less boats on the lake for the simple fact that is a very small lake.. Maybe more enjoyable for more people or maybe it's just me being selfish I suppose. I will admit that.

I have no problem with people cast netting.. they have just as much right to be out there as I do bass fishing.

I sure hope they would be able to control the tournaments.. I think they should be specifically catch and release.. no putting bass in live wells. But granted someone would have to be out patrolling and checking on that..[quote=JWalls]Curiosity gets the better me some times so I have to ask for some follow up to some of these statements.

I really enjoy fishing at squaw creek, mostly from the bank. I have fished the lake every month of the year. Some of the best bank fishing is in the summer months. I enjoyed when the lake was open on Thursday and boats were prohibited. When available, I would pick a Monday to fish when there was less competition. I would go this weekend if it was open.

Agreed, it is an awesome place to fish. I am no marine biologist or anything like that but I just wish it was better managed..

Heard they will require a permit for tournaments and only allow 3 per day.

I like fishing there in October before the tournaments start. Go catch 100 fish, grab a Grumps burger and a beer on the way home 😃
