Lakeview Inn - 09/23/19 09:54 PM

In this hotel still open?

Shows how long it has been since I've been to the lake. If not any recommendations on something where you can pull a boat up to and charge your batteries?

Assuming you are talking about the Lakeview Inn at Amistad it is long gone as are the other motels Amistad Lodge and Anglers Lodge. I stayed in all of them over the years but mostly at Amistad Lodge when Tommie and Jerry owned it.

^^^^^ Nice places, covered parking, and very reasonable.

River Street and also the lady that runs Lorena’s Cantina has some small units and they were the same price as River Street but not nearly as roomy. You kinda have to be lucky to get a unit with Tommy at River Street during peak weekends. We schedule our trips for catfish when he has something available. And they are very nice folks.

If I was a younger man, I would find me ten acres or so, close to Diablo East. I'd build a C shaped group of separate cabins with covered parking for truck and boat.

I'd build a tackle store in the middle of it and sell hamburgers and a bad [censored] Rib-eye steak on one side. Limit of two frosty draft beers served in mega-frozen mugs.. (Ok maybe a few more if you are walking back to your cabin..) And I'd kiss my customers [censored]..

With all the traffic out there I cannot see why it would not make a killin'..

I'd go there!

Just my .02

If you build it, they will come.

I still don’t understand why a nice motel can’t survive somewhere between Blackbrush and Diablo East. And I mean a nice motel not what the other 3 places became. It is less expensive-at least it was last year-to stay at River City with a fridge and small kitchen and sofa with a carport and charging plug than it is at the Ramada in Del Rio. And you don’t have to worry about your boat being vulnerable in the parking lot 200 yards away.

Desire Chapman owner of Lorina's and the Rentals (830) 775-8058. Similar to down Beacon Lodge at falcon in the yellow buildings but brand new.

Yes and Wednesday nite is ribeye nite at Lorena’s-that’s her mom. She was just getting the lodging situated when we stayed there in April but I would think it is better now. My wife and I were crammed in a half of the unit and that was miserable.

I feel like there is just not enough traffic down there to keep these places going. Look at boat storage down there. Cheap and plenty of availability.

River street has some nice places to stay.

Isn't Amistad Lodge still open but it is now called Amistad Lake Resort?

Re: Lakeview Inn - 10/05/19 09:36 PM

No it was that before the demise- I was by there in June and chain link fence around everything. Many years ago it was busy and had a good restaurant where some of the guides met their customers in the morning. All the big plans as far as “Resort” go didn’t work out as far as I could tell. Mismanagement is what I heard but it seems they have to keep upgrading those motels constantly to keep the revenue coming. I kept my boat across the highway in the old days and it sure was convenient.

With the way the lake is fishing, who’d want to go there for a period of time, if they aren’t in a tournament? Not me.

Catfishing is usually pretty good when the bassing gets tough. Our best trips are November and December fishing around 70 or 80 feet close to the bottom. But even then a few days is enough.

As we all know, fishing traffic is much heavier in the warner months. For any business to stay open 365, you've got to have some traffic in those off months. Lots of businesses simply close down during the slow months.

Lots of VRBO's down there. It works well for a group.
