I spend a lot of time in the sun and don't do a good enough job with protection. Take it from me, handing over $1000 out of pocket to have someone carve on your nose is not how you want to spend your morning. Be smart when you're in the sun, and get checked out by a derm every year.

YEP,...I'm long sleeves, long pants, buff, full hat, sunglasses. Sunscreen on hands. Dry wicking is the best.

I have a very good friend of mine who is having surgery this week to remove his nose! Skin cancer got the best of it. He would be the first to tell you how important SUN SCREEN is!

Sorry for your pain. I had my first basal cell cut off over 20 years ago and have been fighting them every since. They found the first melanoma 2 weeks ago. I wear a hat and long sleeves anytime I am out side.

Lost count of how man basal and squamous I have had cut or sometimes frozen. Pretty much every three months I visit the dermatologist for treating keratosis.
Most is prbly due to exposure when I was younger though I drive a lot and my left arm and hand are the worst along with face and ears. Good advice from the OP.

Friends used to laugh at my floppy hat but I still wear one. One plus on seeing a dermatologist, I have been doing this for many years. They had to freeze a few spots off this time as a precaution. I will have to try the fish hide stuff one day.

Yep! Been there, done that Steve. Mine was actually on the cheek mid nose. Doc cut me from just below my eye to the base of my nose. Then forgot to give me my prescriptions before I left the office on a Friday. Needless to say, there was a lot of swelling by Monday when I got home and found the message on my recorder to go get my prescriptions on Tuesday. The worse part was having to go back the following Friday to get my stitches out. The skin had swollen up over all of them and consumed them. So guess what they had to do? That's right, cut them out. The nurse picked up a scalpel and started slashing away. Then had problems finding a few of them. So she called in the doctor who did the same thing. He finally gave me several locals that were the hearth stones from the devils fireplace. That was worse than getting the cancer cut out the first time! I've had a few sqamacells (sp) removed since.

I bought a Shelta hat and love it. Like a floppy hat but with a visor-style brim. Tried other brands but got tired of the brim flipping down over my eyes when running the boat.

Because basal and squamous carcinomas seem so treatable, folks tend to downplay skin cancers. But when you talk about melanomas and merkel cell carcinoma, the game gets deadly serious. 6 years clear of MCC. Cover up!
