How is "Bosque" pronounced? - 05/27/19 02:32 AM

When talking about the Bosque River, I have always pronounced it "Boskee". I have heard it pronounced "Bosk" as well. The other day I heard somebody refer to it as the "Bowquay" River. I said "Where in the hell is the Bowquay River?"

Which is correct?

Pronounce it “bow-kay” and see what the guys say to you. Lol.

Worse is they say “Brah-zohs”. If ya live around it, it’s “brazz-us”. Trust me. Don’t be “the dork”.

It’s only MA hay’-a if you are Texan (or long term transplant) and aren’t from there...the locals pronounce it Muh hair. ..Non- locals, that are non Texans , typically try to pronounce it Mex e uh, for some strange reason. Used to be, a bunch of the old locals would sit around drinking coffee and try to guess where the passer throughs were from, based on how they pronounced the town name, their accent, their clothes, and the type vehicles they drove...good entertainment for the retired types! And I must admit, it was entertaining to sit and listen to them yuk it up, while I was waiting for a food order.

Too many non Texan born folks moving here so we are losing our native speak.
I could list several that have been butchered by the transplants.

I always laugh when a local DFW station gets a new weather forecaster. The first storm we get and they are trying to follow from town to town is always good for a few laughs.

Or Tawakoni. I live in Waxahachie and our corporate office is in South Carolina, so I hear Wax-a-hatch-ee a lot.
