CLEAR COAT REPAIR - 05/13/19 02:14 PM

I HAVE AN 07 LEGEND 21LE AND THE TOP OF THE BOAT IS STARTING TO FADE SOME , 5000 TO RE-CLEAR . THOUGHT ABOUT JUST DOING A CUSTOM WRAP ON THE TOP OF THE BOAT. ANY SUGGESTIONS ? NOT GOING TO SPEND 5000 ON A 07 . ALREADY GOT A QUOTE FROM CLASSIC.

I’d go with wrap. With all the neat colors/patterns out there would make unique and sharp. If go forward please send pictures thinking of doing mine. Good luck

Boats do not have clear coat finishes. Needs to be wet sanded and polished.

HAS BEEN SANDED AND POLISHED . SLIGHTLY FADED IN SOME AREAS . IF I PUT WAX ON IT LASTS FOR A WEEK OR SO

This, anyone who tells you otherwise is running a scam. There is a new brand out there Vexus that is painting there hulls but all other glass boats have gel coat. You also can't really re-gel coat a boat as some will say it will end up cracking and peeling just like auto clear coat.

Can't just sand and polish, have to work down the grits wet sanding then move to rubbing compound then polish, if theres enough gel coat left you can bring it back, just depends on the level of oxidation. If your not getting glitter when sanding there is still some gel coat left, Legends had thick gel coat.

So you're saying that poly flake doesn't have a clear finish over the top of it and anyone that says otherwise is running a scam? Interesting

No what I am saying is gel coat is not automotive clear coat and places telling those, not it the know, with boat oxidation they need their clear coat repaired and down the road end up with this situation https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/11557451/Re:_Boat_finish#Post11557451

Before and after pictures of hand sanding and hand buffing gel coat. This is before using an electric buffer to polish the finish further.

Not all are saveable. My previous owner went to deep with tha sanding and now I’m missing glitter in some spots which also means all clear gel in some areas. I had a guy on here do his best to get it looking best he could. Now I keep it covered and clean and it has stayed suprisingly decent on shine. It will need a wrap or some new clear something in near future if I want it to shine.
