Bass Fishing Boat

My skills as a bass fisherman have improved greatly within the past 5 months. So much that I am wanting to get a bass boat. I currently have a moderately old 1860 cc tin boat, pretty close to a flat bottom. (with ipilot TM and SI ff).

However, I am tired of getting rattled to death and having to drive 5mph across the lake during the wind/chop. I mainly fish lake somerville.

My main question is how well does an aluminum bass boat, cut through chop/wind/white caps. (tin boats are usually cheaper than glass). I've been in a 19ft triton so I know how that handles chop.

The Triton should give you a good idea. That is about as good as it gets. The Ranger and Crestliner Alum. are great. Crestliner makes a 20 ft. boat with all the bells and whistles runs new at about $50K.

Check out the new Vexus boats built by the original guys from Ranger out of Flippin Ar. Best aluminum boat you will find out there. Just got back from the factory to check them out. You can even tell they are aluminum, especially the 19.8 boat with a 150 HP either Merc 4 stroke or Evenirude 2 stroke.

Anything with a v-hull will be better and work great on Somerville.

I was in the same position as you a few years back.. minus the "skills as a bass fisherman have improved' part lol.. My advice is get something smaller, cheaper... get a good a deal as you can. Having your own bass boat will bring in new challenges and advantages and help you to understand better what you want and need for YOU... rather than dropping a huge sum of cash on something that you might not want in 6 months or a year... I spent $4000 on my bass boat like 5 years ago, and I still love it today. Looks like sh* t, but I can go where I want with it, fish in shallow water... and I don't stress if I bump something... and it catches fish. I od wish I had better electronics, but not about to put a $2 or $3,000 graph on this old boat lol..
