Lake conroe drowning

Lake conroe drowning - 05/22/18 10:09 AM

A kayak fisherman flipped and drowned two days ago on Conroe.

Life jacket attached to his kayak.

Got me thinking about some things. For instance, my fancy trolling motor will follow a trail or a heading and I use that often... If I fell in while that was turned on, I'd never catch that boat ...

It's a solid reminder to at least wear my inflatable if I'm away from shore.

I also thought, well heck I'd have my trolling motor remote with me I could bring the boat back to me... But I don't always have that thing on me it's so bulky and heavy ..

Scary thoughts that I never think about.

From the article on Montgomery county police reporter it sounded like he was close enough to shore to be seen by others, but no one could get to him fast enough. Tragedy

...so put that big remote around your neck ..... at least hook it to your pants
that is what it is for ...... just might save your life.
you would be surprised how quick you get used to it .... put the cord around your neck and the remote in a shirt pocket.
kinda like using your kill switch cord ,,,, some do not.
if you got thrown out of the boat,,,,, where is the boat going to wind up ,,,,, what happens to you

Will a TM stop running if it gets a certain distance away from the remote?

Its fine. I didnt know if they operate the way newer cars do, where the car will not run if the key fob is too far away.

Well actually a remote isn’t required to use trolling motor, so pretty sure it will keep going.

Sounds like your trolling motors need a kill switch

My wife's new Lexus will run without her key fob in the car......ask me how I know. It's a great story.

The I pilot trolling motors will continue to run without a signal from the remote. After 30 or so feet the trolling motor will not respond to the remote if the battery is low on the remote. I don’t know what the range is but maybe 60 ft or so with a new remote battery. So hopefully you turn it quick enough to keep the boat close. Lol

That is why my old fat arse doesn’t own a kayak for fishing...if I rent one for recreation use...that life vest is ON.
