Graph speed in relation to position

I know this is probably a dumb question but here it is anyway.
I am new to the world of electronics, I bought a Garmin Striker plus 7 SV. What Iam trying to figure out is when you see structure on the graph, Where exactly is it in relation to the position of the boat?
My boat idles at around 2.8 mph. I try to pinpoint and mark the structure but it never seems to work.
This cant be rocket science but maybe I am not smarter than a 5th grader,

Your graph records data on the far left of the screen in real time. The data on the far left (the picture being drawn) is current; the data gets "older" as it scrolls to the right. On the far right of the screen is the data that is being dropped off the screen. This is the data that is the "oldest." If you want to know what is directly under the boat, you will be watching the far left of the graph.

To be clear, the very far left data takes into account objects that are a little forward of the boat as well. The sonar cone does not shoot straight down. The deeper the water, the wider the cone.

Increase the speed of your screen to about 80% of maximum. You want the screen to report data quickly and then move along so that new data replaces it in a timely manner. IF your screen speed is set too slow, be the time it reports, you are already past it.

If you continue to stay on the data say fish for example, the sonar arches continue to keep showing on the right side of your screen. Once the data clears, then it is no longer in the sonar cone.

You have to know your sonar frequencies for both sonar and any SI/DI operations. Each frequency produces a different sized conical shape. Each shape has its own width ratio.

Thank you for the info. I did some on the water experimenting yesterday with the information. Kinda getting it figured out.

When you are idling watching your graph , always keep your hand on your bouy. When you See
something interesting , chunk the buoy behind you. Now you can drop your trolling motor and go back and investigate what you saw.

Don't know what squib has, but my Lowrance HDI and Garmin units scroll from right to left, showing the most current data on the right hand side.

I had the same problem wrapping my head around it if I could not see it. Try using some known things like driving next to bridge pilings. See where you see the on the graph and compare to where they are in the water. The suggestion to throw a marker buoy is a good one. I assume sv stands for side view? If so your graph is probably like the hummingbird where you can scroll the icon over a position and hit mark and it will mark that location, not where your boat is sitting at the moment.
