It's a shiner isn't it?

I have only caught one (on Lake Athens) and it was around 10" or so in length, lighter colored.

Where did you catch it? If near the coast and the water has saltwater access then it's not all that uncommon but if you are land locked then you have done something I haven't seen.

Something I just thought about, if land locked it could have been brought in by Harvey. My best friend lives in Port Arkansas and his pool got flooded during the hurricane and was full of bluegill from a freshwater pond hundreds of yards away.

Re: What is this? - 12/24/17 04:04 PM

was there a spiny dorsal (3-4)?
cant imagine a mullet running that far upriver, but Falls on the Brazos SP is the first obstruction it would come to on the main river if it did, so feasible I guess.....

fishbreeder is the man to contact about this on here.

I've fished that area many times. It's a Mullet... The river is full of them down their. Super good Gar and big Catfish bait.

Amazing. "The Brazos River is full of mullet" just south of Waco? I'd have lost that bet. Interesting.

Interesting. I'd have never guessed they were normally that far upriver.

That's definitely a new one for me. Catch them just like it by the truck load at the coast in cast nets but I haven't ever heard of one in freshwater. Pretty cool

It is a mullet. It is a saltwater fish, but it is not uncommon to find them in freshwater close to the gulf. Chop him up and use him for Gar/ Catfish bait.

It's a Striped Mullet. It can be used as bait or eaten. While most people wouldn't even think to eat them, I have and it is one of the best tasting fish that I have ever had.
