So I'm not new to tying clousers but have never tied any this size for saltwater. I usually just put a set of plain gray lead dumbbell on them because it has never mattered to me to have the eyes on there because freshwater fish don't care. So I'm getting into saltwater fishing now after years of trout fishing and chasing other freshwater species I have decided to give it a try. So I have been looking at a lot of flies an noticed they all have eyes and I really wanted to start tying some up last night but didn't have any eyes so I decided to try something and it payed off in my opinion. So I picked up some metallic permanent markers and some more hard as nails and this is what I got.
First pic is the first one I did.

Those eyes look evil! Very nice!

I colored them with the metallic marker and then the black marker and put a drop of hard as nails on there and it made the eyes nice and round and gave it that look.

Very nice ties!

One thing that surprised me when I started fly fishing in the salt was how small the flies can be and still catch big fish, so don't be afraid to tie Clousers with bead chain eyes in sizes as small as 6 or 8. The nice thing about the smaller flies is that they are much easier to cast and don't hurt nearly as much when they thwock you in the back of the head on your cast.

Thanks. Those are the only hooks available where I live, there is not many options down here. Lol
I'm planning a trip to Ft. Worth next weekend so I will pick up more supplies then.

Is a 6 or 8 enough hook for bull reds?

I'm not sure.
Most of my fly fishing has been freshwater and just now getting into saltwater fishing.
I would like to know what would be the smallest hook to use.

No 6s or 8s for bull reds, though they work fine for smaller reds, speckled trout, etc. Be sure to tie on stainless steel hooks so they won't corrode from the saltwater. If I'm going for something big, I'll tie on Gamakatsu S11-3H (3x strong) hook or maybe a lighter SC15 if I want good hook penetration.

I've caught some upper slot reds 27-28" and one 31" redfish on number 6 stinger hooks. Those aren't quite bulls but big fish can be caught on small hooks. Heck I caught a 3ft tarpon last year on a size 8 sc15.

Thanks for input. I tied a bunch with 1/0, #2, 4, and 6.
