Going on vacation in June. Not very experienced with saltwater fishing. What can I expect for a half day trip? What kind of fish should we be going after? Any good or bad charters? Thanks in advance

If you can swing it, I'd definitely go for a full day. Striped Marlin should be good while you are there. June is pivotal for Dorado and Tuna, but I bet one of them, or both will be going good while you are there. Use a reputable charter company. I use Redrum. Owned my Texas boys PJ and Ryan Donovan. Do not just book a trip at the marina based of "bargains". There are many "coyotes" out there who will just take your deposit money and you will never see them again. Or they may take you out in an old bucket of bolts with sorry tackle.

Make sure you do your research before getting there, as many companies take you out for a expensive boat ride. We where out for 8hrs and trolled 4 of those hrs for bonito. When I told the capt, we are looking for trophy fish, he went on to tell me that bonito was good table fare. After trolling for another hr, I conveniced him to go OFFshore for the trophies. We spent another 3 hrs trolling the same baits with nothing to show.
Spent $30 on goggle eye/hard tails only to feed it to the seals. I went ahead and dumped the 5 bonitos foe the seals. Thought he'd enjoy them better then us.
Talking to another guy at the dock, he hooked 6 Marlin, bringing 4 to the boat. Said his capt tried new things, different baits, speeds, etc.
Go figure.... This report is 2 weeks old

I'd go out with Minerva's. they Are the local bait store and have fishing guides and are trustworthy. Go in to their store and get temperature maps and what not to see the best day. I would also suggest telling your guide whoever it is that you want to go way out on the pacific to catch fish. Many guides there just take you out and drive around and you don't do that great.

Be aware of the moon phase also. we used Redrum and did ok, but could have been better had there not been a full moon. Went in July last year. Good Luck!

Picante is all we have ever used. Been using them every year since 2000. Have caught tons of fish big and small. The crews are smart and English speaking. Go out for a full day on one of the 31 ft boats u wont be sorry!
Politicians, baseball players, high-powered corporate CEO's they all seem to eventually let us down. Nature, however, does not. Look to her for inspiration and you will learn the secrets to living a good life. The most Important lesson it would seem is to make sure you spend as much time fishing as anything else.

There was a boat called " jack pot" that we used. Don't know if he is still around fished sun up to sundown with me and my wife for 500.00. We caught 5 or 6 striped marlin. I was worn out, but awesome trip and didn't have to share the boat. This was 10 years ago and the owners lived in Arizona and always wanted him on fish so anytime they came down he was on the fish.

I've been to Cabo numerous times. I agree with above. Book your fishing trip before you go and do research beforehand. I've fished with Redrum and with El Budster with great success. Both have multiple boats and English speaking captains. The last time out with El Budster, we fished two days. The first day we had 4 striped marlin and the second day we had 3 striped marlin, 3 dorado and 5 tuna. A full day trip shouldn't cost more than $500 or so, not including tip. Be sure and let the captain know you'll be practicing catch and release on marlin. Most boats do it, but there are still a few who keep marlin regardless. DEFINITELY take your camera. We took these shots after renting a panga for about $20.
