Hey guys - I have been catching some shad at oak grove park area on Grapevine lake but last week I ripped my net so I will probably avoid that area. Does anyone know any better areas at Grapevine to catch them or any other lakes or ponds in the Grapevine-Bedford area? Also, I usually only catch threadfin shad but would like to get some gizzard shad. Thank you for any advice you can give me.

What he said ^^ Catch your own bait. Try throwing on the boat ramps at dawn or dusk. Just be careful about dragging on the bottom edge. Sometimes it'll hang there. Or throw off the loading dock to the side of the ramp. Shad are in the spawn, so think "shallow and rocky".

I tried several options over the years. Frozen shad, dried shad, dried seasoned shad, goldfish, minnows etc. Would get one bite for every 20 bites I would get with fresh shad. Now I won't bother going out if I can't find the shad. You can keep it refrigerated for a few days, but once frozen it is useless for some reason. The main reason I will go out with guides is that they will get up at 4:00am to throw the net for two hours if necessary. Not really paying them for the boat or expertise, I am paying them to catch the bait.
