I'm planning to try somethings outside the box (for me anyways) this year just to improve my skills and confidence in different types of ways to put fish in the boat. I was given 8 NIB DD22's so I figured perfect opportunity to learn something else.

It's a pretty straight forward approach. What type of tips are you looking for?

Get a reel that holds lots of line with a good speed ratio for once you hook up!
Also a rod that lets you feel exactly what that crankbait is hitting rather it be rock, gravel, hard bottomm, or mud!
..... and a good net cause you can catch some giants doing this

What size line? Casting is not as important since you are using a motor to let line out.

I use 10 and 12 pound fluoro exclusively. Mono will work fine, too.

Thanks for the info guys. How do you choose a location to fish? Near creeks, deep flats etc. I suppose 15-25 FOW depending on lure selection.
